Announcement to Clergymen and Spiritual leaders who have endorsed Senator John McCain:

Since we were taught to always vote our Bible and:

  • Gov. Huckabee is still in the race and
  • Gov. Huckabee may win the nomination in a brokered convention if Sen. McCain doesn’t win 1191 PLEDGED delegates before the convention and
  • You have endorsed Sen. McCain

The only conclusions we can come to are either:

  • You support federal funding for embryonic stem cell research and
  • You are against a federal pro-life amendment and
  • You are against a federal pro-traditional marriage amendment and
  • You believe Sen. McCain is a stronger supporter of Israel than Gov. Huckabee

Or:

  • You have been mislead or
  • You don’t practice what you preach or
  • You believe God is spelled G-O-P and have sold out to the establishment

Since you have endorsed Sen. McCain:

  • You are forcing your informed followers to choose whether or not to follow your leadership and
  • Uninformed followers may blindly follow your leadership

Gov. Huckabee stands firmly on Biblical values. When there is a choice to choose good; and instead you choose “the lesser of 2 evils;” you are still choosing evil. A pastor is accountable to God on how he leads his people. Please consider withdrawing your endorsement since there is a better choice. Thank you.

I am adding a note to this posting because of the numerous comments I am receiving. I encourage every voter to do some of the vote match quizzes to see which candidate matches closest to your views. This is the primaries.

  1. Good points. Pastor Hagee’s endorsement of Sen. McCain smacks of opportunism of ignorance, neither of which belong in a pastor. A pastor’s endorsement – as an individual – is legal, but also a precious thing, that should ‘not be entered into lightly’ (as a pastor so often says in a marriage ceremony). This endorsement did not reflect well on a man who had maxed out his contributions for Gov. Huckabee and had welcomed him in his pulpit in December.

  2. Lincoln won in a brokered convention. Imagine the U.S. if he had given up. Or if he had backed down from biblical principles. Your endorsement forces us to choose between 2 candidates in November who will not protect life. McCain is for stem-cell research & letting states choose abortion. His record on conservative judges is shaky. Each time we allow the GOP to move to the left of Christian values, they see it as our approval to discard those values. If we do not stand firm, they will begin forcing abortions for defects, allowing partial birth abortions everywhere, withholding treatment for people who have diseases or disabilities that cost money, etc. Please reconsider. Your endorsements impact your congregations & spread misinformation that we can’t win when we can (review the history of brokered conventions). Let them know they have a choice in Mike Huckabee who will stand firm & fight for Biblical principles. Leaders of the church are held to a higher standard because they have the potential to impact so many – to lead them astray with misinformation. Your words matter. Millions of unborn children are at risk. We have to stand up for them.

  3. I agree. The last conclusion above, “Uninformed followers may blindly follow your leadership,” truly paints the classic picture of the blind leading the blind.

Pastor Hagee’s endorsement yesterday left me feeling ill, not so much for the damage it may do to Governor Huckabee’s campaign, but because it’s yet another obvious example of our so-called Christian leaders providing opportunity for the unbelieving world to point, laugh, and mock. No one is going to take this as “real christian conservatives support McCain.” The cynical, opportunistic world knows cynicism and opportunism when it’s laid out for all to see. This reads more like, “christian leaders support themselves.”

  4. This is one of the most perverse, delusional and radically silly things I’ve read for some time. Consider:

1)Sen. McCain’s nomination is assured; he lacks only 72 committed delegates of being assured of the nomination on the first ballot.

    2) A brokered convention isn’t going to happen- and Gov. Huckabee’s ego trip really serves no purpose other than to delay the process of unifying behind McCain and benefit Barak Obama; and

    3) Gov. Huckabees regrettable comments concerning the relationship between revelation and civil law indicate a profoundly unbiblical understanding of the subject that gives aid and comfort to those who characature conservative Christians as attempting to establish a theocracy, and raise serious doubts as to his thoughtfulness.

The only conclusion I can come to is that you support abortion on demand-
since you choose, with absolutely no prospect of Gov Huckabee’s candidacy succeeding- to benefit Sen. Obama’s campaign and obstruct the only candidacy from which we can expect that pro-life last Supreme Court seat; or

    2) You are mislead (well, that goes without saying!); you don’t practice what you preach; or that you worship Mike Huckabee- whose prospects are as dead as Julius Caesar- and are so devoted to him that you are willing to help Barak Obama to win and babies to continue to be aborted rather than deal with reality as, in fact, it exists.

    Bob Waters,
1)Sen. McCain is not as close to winning as you seem to think. According to
    http://politics.nytimes.com/election-guide/2008/results/gopdelegates/index.htmll
Sen. McCain has only 845 PLEDGED delegates. This IS the primary election not the general. We should be able to vote for the candidate that is closest to our own values in the PRIMARY election. During the general election we can choose the “lesser of two evils.”

2)Gov. Huckabee stated his comment was not worded the way he wished he would have worded it. Gov. Huckabee never tried to “to establish a theocracy” when acting as Governor of Arkansas. Baptist are the ones that worked the hardest for America to have complete freedom OF religion. If it weren’t for the Baptist; American’s would have been paying taxes to SUPPORT churches.

Patrick Henry arose and offered a substitute bill for them all, “That four churches (or denominations) instead of one be established” — the Church of England, or Episcopal, Congregationalist, Presbyterian, and the Baptist.

For more information on the subject visit http://www.baptistpillar.com/bd0174.htm If you prefer to choose which religion (if any) you want to practice and are glad your tax dollars aren’t supporting churches; you might want to thank the Baptist rather than bash them.

3,4) As I stated before: THIS IS THE PRIMARIES!

  5. RIGHT!!
    Go mike!

  6. Once again, another rant from the righteous Christians, telling us who we should vote for based on their theology. I’m a conservative republican, not a Christian, and don’t give {deleted} about your bible thumping peaching to me about who to vote for. You could use your same lame argument against your position: “If you want to throw a proven pro life candidate under the bus who appears to be the ONLY candidate capable of beating Obama, then you will be ushering in possibly 8 years of liberal leadership who will be appointing at least two Supreme Court justices who will all support pro-choice candidates.” Yep, your position is based clearly on sound logic. I’ll tell you what, do us real republicans a favor and start your own [deleted] party – call it the Christian Conservative party, and we’ll see how well you do with 15% of the countries popular vote. The demographics are against the Christian coalition, its time you folks started increasing the size of your tent or be relegated into obscurity. Remember what Reagan said…..”going off a cliff waving your flags, is still going off a cliff….”

    pacificaharry,
Where did I TELL anyone who to vote for? My complaint is with Clergymen and Spiritual leaders endorsing candidates that don’t stand on the same Biblical principles they do IN THE PRIMARY elections. Many of our leaders are trying to force their beliefs on us. I challenge voters to do some of those candidate matches before deciding who to vote for. Huckabee was my closest match on ALL of them I did.

If you use words I find offensive I will not post your comments in the future. This is a Christian website.

  7. Ditto. This was the most irresponsible move in the “church” yet. He can always recant before the March 4th. I think this will not rest well with him. I pray for a great disturbance in his spirit as to the arrogant and irresponsible step he has taken. In fact, he supported Gov. Huckabee in Dec and maxed out a contribution to him in Dec 07. What a sad day it is when we begin to devour our own. But – on the other hand with friends (or should I say brothers) like him, who needs enemies. I am sure there will have to be an answer given for the abuse of his position, but we can all rest in the fact that God is not surprised. It will just the give the miracle more “ooomph” and I know those who are truly led of God’s Spirit will repent in that hour.

  8. From the Christian “leadership” we are admonished to vote our values. Why do they not endorse theirs?

I have been SO disappointed in men like Dr. Dobson and Pastor Hagee. I am truly dumb founded at their responses.

God places leaders in power. Only He knows what the divine plan is. Watch and see and trust.

    Lynn,
Dr. Dobson has taken a strong stand on Biblical issues. He said he cannot support McCain because McCain supports federal funding for embryonic stem cell research. Dr. Dobson has endorsed Gov. Huckabee.

  9. 40 years ago I went to Washington DC to encourage Christians to be involved in politics. Finally, a man with true convictions and has a good chance to win. What do the Evangelical leaders like Robentson and Hagee do – they stab them in the back, support the winner, the man who can give them influence. May God have mercie on them when they give an account for this. Truly disappointed. Glad at least Dr. Dobson stood on principle.

  10. Keep up the good work, GrannyTF3. I enjoyed your blog. I’m really disappointed about Hagee endorsing McCain.Go Mike Go. You will win!

  11. I used to have respect and enjoyed listening to Hagee, I have lost all respect and I seriously doubt that I will be giving any more money to his charity for Isreal. I will start donating to another charity for Isreal. I think this will hurt Hagee and his church more than he realizes. I have told many peoplel about his endorsement which shocked me beyond words. I think he will lose quite a few viewers, and donatations for his charity.

  12. I had to sit down this morning and decided I had to write down “All the Things I have Learned about LIFE and POLITICS in the last 5 months” so I wouldn’t forget.
Your sentiments about Christian Leaders was high on my list. I learned that they aren’t who they profess to be. To DO one thing and SAY another is what we are taught that false teaching is all about. I learned that I can THINK FOR MYSELF and WEIGH EVERYTHING AGAINST the TRUTH of God’s Word. Conservative Leaders who also profess to be the GOP who only live by FISCAL conservatism, but ignore the foundation of PRINCIPLES that define not only conservatism, but Christianity. It is clear that a Conservative does not mean Christian. At least not the definition of priorities and living that the Bible teaches. There are many facets of the GOP/Conservative Label. Can we come together again?? It seems that the original definition of GOP included both the FISCAL and SOCIAL priorities. The fiscal group seems to be trying to override the social group, and that is why Mike Huckabee’s supporters did not support McCain, and continue to resist the whole GOP party, feeling it has abandoned them.
